Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
